Summer Update: Ross Williams

Written by Kate One Comment

Ross Williams

Ross Williams sleeps on the leather sofa that sits at the race tent on the beach. He sleeps literally, having the t-shirt on his face, which protects him from the sun’s rays. Asked if we can talk, he asks for 10 minute more to sleep. Tiredness, effort and hot weather require lots of rest.

- Ross, I am almost sure that you are one of the most traveled windsurfer. Could you tell me which places you have been this past summer?.

Maui – testing equipment for Gaastra, then Fortaleza to end the windsurfing tour. Other places? South Africa, North Africa, Germany, France, Argentina – there was the wedding of my girlfriend’s sister - Austria, South Korea, Costa Brava, Canary Islands. And basically no holidays! Do I plan them? Well, I have to go to Sopot, Turkey, Spain. I do plan to go to England to spend some time with my family. It is always very difficult to catch up with them. I am quite a busy person.

- The global financial crisis; does it have any influence on you, it is the thing everybody talks about right now.

The crisis didn’t effect me that much. I am working very hard and doing all disciplines, and in all of them I am on the top. That’s why I still have sponsors and it is worth to invest in me from the branch companies point of view. I had much more exposure in magazines this year. Collecting all magazines in Europe it was 100 pages in total. 3, 4 covers. I have also launched a new website.

- Any changes in your life?

I think I focused more on PR, and I also invested more in my personal profile. My girlfriend is very supportive in that filed. She is working with PR, and now she also helps me.

- Is that the way for being together in this busy life?

Yes. We were traveling a lot together this year; she was with me on Maui for example. We try to adjust our work-schedules to spend as much time together as it is possible. But it is very important to me to not hold her on in her own career. So we try arranging some compromises. She also has to follow her dreams. But she is so supportive; she gave up some her things to support me. Now we will arrange more things that we can do together. I have managed to save some money and we would like to get some house in the near future. In Argentina. Of course.
